Residential School Watersport Trips - UKSA

UKSA specialises in introducing people under the age of 25 to the great outdoors through the medium of watersports. Whatever your ability or previous experience, we have the equipment and the staff to challenge you, develop your skills and fuel a passion for watersports. UKSA is a registered charity that is committed to changing the lives of everyone it works with through its maritime training and experiences. The charity has enhanced the lives of many young people and undertakes extensive fundraising activities to provide personal development opportunities to all.

The wider benefits of participation in watersports are widely recognised and equally important. These include inspiration, enjoyment, teamwork, boosting self confidence and self reliance, as well as the making and sealing of friendships. These are key factors in making a residential watersports trip a memorable – and in some cases life changing – experience for people of all ages.

UKSA offer a wide range of activities, ranging from half-day water awareness and team building taster sessions to a week aboard an ocean-going yacht. Our most popular programme is Multi-Activity – designed to be the ideal introduction to a wide range of watersports. In addition, we offer focused dinghy sailing, windsurfing and kayaking courses at all levels. In all cases, programmes can be tailored to suit the individual needs and preferences of your group.

Safety is of paramount importance to us, and the Academy has an exemplary record in this respect. We’re proud of the level of safety within the organisation, but never complacent. We work hard to ensure best practice is followed across the board at all times and welcome inspections from external authorities. These include regular visits by government experts from the Adventure Activities Licensing Authority (AALA), the national governing bodies including the RYA, BCU and the Maritime and Coastguard Agency (MCA).

Group visits to UKSA have a reputation for being relaxed and free of hassle or stress. We work hard to make every trip a resounding success, while keeping the workload on group leaders to a minimum. Many groups return year after year because they know and trust what UKSA delivers. Party leaders need no previous experience of water activities – our trained and qualified staff take care of all activities afloat.

Cowes is widely regarded as being at the heart of sailing, and with good reason. The Isle of Wight is blessed with great weather, warm waters, as well as beaches and creeks, so it’s no surprise people flock here to do watersports at all levels. For groups of over 20 people we can provide a private ferry service from Warsash near Southampton direct to our own marina with no extra cost.

Our on-shore facilities are perfectly set up for groups of all sizes – with 270 residential beds.

Our campus provides everything you need on site, with facilities including a shop, swimming pool, cyber cafe, disco, bar and large lounge area.

UKSA’s fleet of dinghies, windsurfers, keelboats, yachts and kayaks have been carefully selected to maximise the enjoyment of learning new skills in a safe and controlled environment.

This is a big hit with all our groups – UKSA staff will keep all members of your group active, entertained and safe, from breakfast until lights out, and there’s 24-hour cover. Off-duty party leaders can relax in our on-site lounge, yet be accessible to their colleagues and party members, while remaining confident that their group is benefiting from the same high level of supervision, briefing and safety as our activities afloat.

Our multi-qualified instructors are well versed in effective procedures and best practices across a range of disciplines. Most on-the water activities, including dinghy sailing and windsurfing have a typical student to instructor ratio of 6:1. In addition, a dedicated

UKSA Instructor in charge helps co-ordinate larger groups, taking the pressure off group leaders.

Our on-site dining facilities will provide on-shore meals and packed lunches for activities afloat. We always offer a choice of dishes, including a vegetarian option and can cater for a wide variety of specialist diets on request including kosher, halal, dairy free, gluten free and vegan.

Our group prices include:

  • Travel to and from the Isle of Wight (20 people+)
  • Full board accommodation
  • Fantastic equipment for all activities afloat and ashore
  • Great instructor / pupil ratios
  • Full evening activity programme
